Amy at the travel clinicTravel Clinics are a must when traveling abroad to developing nations. Yes, they may remind you of Dr. Jekkyl (or Hyde) coming at you with an unneccesarily long needle, but the fact of the matter is you need them. And to cut the anxiety straight away, the process itself is really not nearly as bad as I first expected.

I was able to book an appointment a little less than a month before the big departure date which allowed me plenty of time to get my shots, deal with the side affects, and address any questions or issues that came up along the way. While the only required vaccination for traveling the world is Yellow Fever immunization, I opted to play it safe and went for the following:

  • Yellow Fever: $85.00
  • Meningocacal: $110.00
  • Tdap: $14.00
  • Polio Booster (due to its high occurance in India): $35.00
  • Typhoid (in pill form): $50.00

All in, I spent a total of $354.00 which covered all of my vacinations and the $60.00 consultation fee.

At the end of the day, the travel doctor was extremely informative, and allowed me to make my own decisions as to how I wanted to protect myself against the worldly diseases. I will admit that the Yellow Fever and Meningocacal stung badly during the injection and ache for a few days after, however the experience in itself was mostly easy and pain free!
